HARTFORD, Conn. - The Wheaton College men's swimming & diving team battled Trinity College (Conn.) and Connecticut College on Saturday. The Lyons fell 174-114 to Trinity and 214.50-72.50 to Connecticut.
Opening action in the 200-yard medley relay, Wheaton's 'A' team consisting of sophomore Jacob Cost, junior Jonathan Dunnett, senior Ross Johnston and senior Frederick Garneau gained second place with a final time of 1:38.49. Sophomore Timmer Sposato guided the way for the Lyons in the 1,000 freestyle when he tapped in at 10:53.13 while senior Todd Lambert led the way in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:53.21.
Dunnett continued action in the 100-yard breaststroke where he claimed second place at 1:00.41 and third in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:15.94 as Johnston earned fourth in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:06.65. In the 50-yard freestyle, Garneau (22.48), senior Jerard Fredette (23.22), junior Raymond Bortolot (23.34) and Sposato (23.67) each clocked in top final times for Wheaton.
In diving, senior Ricky Davies notched first place in the one-meter with a final of 241.42 while first-year Aaron Howe tabbed 204.31. Davies went on to earn 237.15 in the three-meter as Howe registered a final of 202.12.
The Lyons travel to the Cougar Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 4 hosted at Clark University at 2 p.m.
