WORCESTER, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's swimming & diving team topped the UMass-Dartmouth Corsairs, 183-60, but fell to WPI, 169-91, on Wednesday in the Sports & Recreation Center.
First-year Aaron Howe broke his first school record when he earned a 295.40 final in the one-meter (six dives), also giving him first place. The past record was set by Ben Oliveri at 284.70 back in 2013. He also went on to place first in the three-meter (six dives) at 284.55. Senior Ricky Davies registered second place in the one-meter at 214.10 and third in the three-meter at 274.55.
Wheaton's 400-yard medley relay team was led by sophomore Jacob Cost, junior Jonathan Dunnett, senior Ross Johnston and senior Frederick Garneau with a final time of 3:39.82 for third place. Garneau (56.74) and Cost (56.76) went on to place second and third respectively in the 100-yard backstroke to gain top five positions for the Lyons while Dunnett claimed third in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:01.08.
Senior Jerard Fredette and sophomore Kevin Silva tallied two additional top five spots for Wheaton during the 50-yard freestyle with Fredette earning 23.55 and Silva notching a 23.70 final.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Garneau tabbed second place at 49.17 while Dunnett sealead third place in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:20.18. Sophomore Kevin Silva (2:10.24), sophomore Chris Steward (2:12.18), senior Samuel Zarfos (2:14.96) and senior Todd Lambert (2:15.93) swept the board for the Lyons in the 200-yard individual medley in spots one through four.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team closed out the meet with a first place finish thanks to Fredette, Dunnett, junior Raymond Bortolot and Garneau who dished out a final time of 1:28.92.
Wheaton hosts Tufts on Saturday with meet time set for 11 a.m. in Balfour Natatorium.
