Women's Swimming & Diving Notches Senior Day Victory Over Babson

NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's swimming & diving team battled the Babson College Beavers on Saturday in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) meet, hosted in Balfour Natatorium. The Lyons took the 206-73 victory over the Beavers on Senior Day.

Wheaton kicked off the meet claiming spots one through four in the opening 200-yard medley relay. The 'A' group consisting of senior Kelley Baylis, senior Jess Ryabin, junior Aleza Epstein and junior Jenna Hayden earned a first place finish of 1:53.18. The 1,000-yard freestyle looked similar as senior Emily Girard (11:41.09), first-year Shannon Connolly (12:29.38) and senior Andrea Jelaska (12:46.76) registered first, second and third place. Connolly recorded a personal-best while Jelaska dished out a season-best time.

Senior Claire Bollman led the way for Wheaton in the 200-yard freestyle when she clocked in at 2:05.54 for first place. First-year Sophia Hatzikos (2:09.46) followed in second and first-year Holly Cohan in third with a personal-best time. Ryabin later earned her own personal-best time after she tapped in at 32.53 in the 50-yard breaststroke.

Hayden push the Lyons forward in the 100-yard butterfly when she recorded a 1:01.71 final time. First-year Maggie Lawler was right behind her, sealing a second place spot at 1:05.50 with a personal-best finish. 

In the 500-yard freestyle, Bollman tallied first place at 5:33.41 as first-year Elizabeth Bernardy claimed a personal best time of 5:41.96. It became a string of personal best times for the Lyons as Epstein, sophomore Tayla Slater and junior Catie Ebsary belted top finishes in the 50-yard butterfly.

First-year Maddy Morrison guided Wheaton in the one and three-meter dives, earning second place in the one-meter (244.50) and first-place in the three-meter (249.60). Sophomore Katherine Conway followed next in the one-meter at 204.01 and junior Tori Popstein at 190.05. 

Wheaton competes next against WPI and UMass-Dartmouth in a tri-meet on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., hosted at WPI.
