Box Score 2 SCRANTON, Pa. - The Wheaton College volleyball team opened the 2016 Scranton Invitational on Friday with matches against Wentworth and FDU-Florham.
Wheaton dropped its opening match 3-1 to Wentworth with the Leopards earning wins in the final three sets (19-25, 26-24, 25-18, 25-15).
The Lyons bounced back in the second match, defeating FDU-Florham 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-21).
WENTWORTH 3, WHEATON 1
Despite neither team hitting well in the opening set, the Lyons put together enough offense to pull out a 25-19 victory. Wentworth bounced back, having just enough to take the final three sets.
Cathryn MacGregor led the Lyon offense with six kills, while Claire Cansler had five and both Allison Cox and first-year Nikita Selivan posted four. First-year McKenna Milholland earned 13 assists in the match, while Becca Houghton collected 11. Junior captain Stephanie Martin led the team in digs with 30. MacGregor pulled up 20 digs, Sadie Stewart 11, and Milholland 10.
WHEATON 3, FDU-FLORHAM 0
The Lyons had a much better outing against FDU-Florham, opening the match with a .242 attacking percentage, their highest of the day.
Cansler played a strong match for Wheaton, posting a .444 hitting percentage, after collecting a team-high 10 kills on 18 attempts. Cox collected eight kills and MacGregor seven in the win. Milholland dished out 17 assists, while Houghton finished with 14. Martin once again led the team in digs, pulling up 23.
