NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's soccer team overcame a one goal deficit to defeat the United States Coast Guard Academy 3-1 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament quarterfinal contest Wednesday afternoon at Keefe Field. 

Wheaton improves to 11-6-2 on the season, while Coast Guard wraps up the 2016 campaign 9-6-3 overall. With the win the Lyons will now take on No. 1 seeded Babson on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

Coast Guard took an early lead, jumping ahead 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Garett Magill just 22 seconds into the match. The play started when Luke Telang beat his defender and made a break for the end line, where he crossed the ball to Magill who one touched the ball for his first goal of the season. 

Wheaton equalized in the ninth minute of action. The Lyons crossed the ball in from the right side, where it made its way to the head of junior Louis Chavez who directed the ball back across goal to first-year Roni Diniz. Diniz one-timed the ball into the back of the net for his team-leading 14th goal of the year. 

The Lyons netted what would prove to be the game-winning goal with just seconds remaining in the first-half. Taking a long throw-in, junior Sean Hurlburt flicked the ball to senior captain Kevin Davis who headed it past the Bears goalkeeper.

Davis added his second goal of the contest in the 68th minute after receiving a through ball from Diniz on a Lyon counter. Davis took just one touch before firing the shot into the left corner for his seventh goal of the year. The senior has now scored all seven of his goals in Wheaton's last four games. 

Wheaton goalkeeper Erik Wisniewski made five saves, while Coast Guard keeper Jake Sorenson made six saves. 

#4 Wheaton returns to the field on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 10:30 a.m. for a NEWMAC semifinal contest at #1 Babson.
