NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's swimming & diving team defeated the Roger Williams University Hawks, 163-135, on Friday in Balfour Natatorium.
Kicking off the meet with the 200-yard medley relay, Wheaton earned first place when senior Ross Johnston, senior Samuel Zarfos, junior Jonathan Dunnett and senior Frederick Garneau clocked in a final of 1:36.65. Wheaton went on to sweep the top three spots in the 100-yard backstroke when they were guided by sophomore Jacob Cost (53.25), sophomore Chris Steward (58.11) and sophomore Kevin Silva (58.95), all gaining season-best times.
Dunnett also registered first place in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:00.39 with a season-best while Johnston continued Wheaton's boost with a first place finish in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:01.53.
Garneau earned first place season-best marks in the 50-yard freestyle (21.78) and 100-yard freesyle (48.62).
Wheaton closed out the meet with its last first place performance during the 200-yard freestyle relay with senior Jerard Fredette, senior Todd Lambert, junior Raymond Bortolot and Garneau recorded a 1:27.51 final.
Senior Ricky Davies and first-year Aaron Howe earned first and second place for the Lyons across the board in diving, beginning with the three-meter when Davies earned 251.63 and Howe earned 209.18, followed by the one-meter where Davies claimed 261.83 and Howe recorded a 260.18 final.
Wheaton travels to Springfield College on Saturday for their next competition in a trio matchup of Springfield and Keene State. Action begins at 1 p.m.
