Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Wheaton College volleyball team fell 3-0 (12-25, 15-25, 9-25) to Wesleyan College Saturday afternoon in game one of the Lyons tri-match at Silloway Gym. Wheaton then won its opening set against Connecticut College, 30-28, before falling in the final three (10-25, 15-25, 20-25).

WESLEYAN 3 - WHEATON 0
The Lyons received five kills each from sophomores Claire Cansler and Cathryn MacGregor, while first-year Cameron Mercer knocked down three kills and Allison Cox finished with two. Becca Houghton ended the match with seven assists and Stephanie Martin contributed a team-high seven digs. Mercer and first-year Nikita Selivan each picked up a block.

Nicole Hilton led all players with 10 kills for the Cardinals. Kaira Muraoka-Roberton finished with a match-high 30 assists and Olivia Guidotti pulled up a match-high 13 digs. Hilton led all players with three blocks.

CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 3 - WHEATON 1
Cansler concluded the match with a team best .333 attacking percentage after knocking down 12 kills and making just two errors. Selivan ended her day with eight kills, while MacGregor had six and Cox five. Houghton dished out a team-high 21 assists, while Martin and MacGregor each came up with 19 digs. Cansler also finished with a team-high three blocks.

Sam Hunter of Conn. College finished with a match-high 16 kills to go with 15 digs. Belinda Mullally also finished with a double-double, knocking down 10 kills and pulling up a team-high 16 digs. Grace McGee finished with a match-high 34 assists.

Wheaton held an eight point advantage, 15-7, in the opening frame after posting a 5-0 run on kills by Mercer and Cansler. The Camels did enough to force the set to go longer, but would not have enough as the Lyons pulled out the 30-28 win.

MacGregor and Mercer earned the Lyons the early lead in the second set, just to have it erased by unforced errors. Wheaton regrouped in the third set but would only hold the lead once and 6-5.

The final set was far more competitive with the Lyons coming out on a mission. An ace by Martin and two kills from Selivan and a put down by Cansler gave Wheaton a 4-0 lead out of the gate. The Lyons held a slim lead until a 3-0 run by the Camel's took it away. Wheaton recaptured the lead on a Conn. College attacking error but the Camels found a way to take the set.

Wheaton returns to the court on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. for its final home game of the 2016-17 season. The Lyons will host Babson College.
