WALTHAM, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's swimming & diving team opened the 2016-17 campaign on Saturday at Brandeis University in a non-conference meet where the Lyons went on to defeat the Judges 157-131.
Wheaton opened the meet with the 200-yard medley relay, claiming first place with a final time of 1:39.95 thanks to sophomore Jacob Cost, senior Samuel Zarfos, junior Jonathan Dunnett and senior Jerard Fredette.
Senior Ross Johnston dished out a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle when he timed in at 1:50.50. Dunnett and Zarfos went on to register first and second place respectively in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:01.38 and 1:04.53 while Fredetter (22.88) and junior Raymond Bortolot (23.37) notched first and second in the 50-yard freestyle.
The Lyons didn't slow down there as Johnston (2:01.02) and Cost (2:04.62) recorded slots one and two in the 200-yard backstroke to keep Wheaton on top. Dunnett (2:16.69) and Zarfos (2:26.01) helped close out individual action for the Lyons by place first and second in the 200-yard breaststroke.
In diving, senior Ricky Davies earned first-place in the one-meter (6 dives) with a 244.05 final score and first place in the one-meter (5 dives) with a (169.58) final.
The 400-yard freestyle relay for Wheaton went on to conclude the dual meet with a strong first-place finish when they clocked in at 3:24.02 (senior Todd Lambert, Bortolot, Fredette and Johnston).
The Lyons host their season opener on Saturday against Bentley University with action kicking off at 1 p.m. in Balfour Natatorium.
