Box Score 2 BRISTOL, R.I. - The Wheaton College volleyball team opened the Roger Williams Tournament on Friday afternoon, taking on Lasell and #13 Clarkson. The Lyons picked up their second win of the season with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 22-25, 25-14) victory over Lasell, before falling 0-3 (13-25, 15-25, 17-25) to Clarkson.
"Overall it was a solid day of play. Playing at a consistently fast tempo is what we need to keep pushing at," said head coach Craig Letourneau. "We received some strong play from Cari Sheets, Destinee Dubose, Olivia Wilson and Arieanne Creighton in first match and from Stephanie Martin, Taylor Matook and Claire Cansler in the match vs Clarkson. Clarkson is a top-25 team every year and they keep the pressure on you all match. We did a good job of playing at a high level for the first half of each set but need to be able to focus for the entire set."
vs. LASELL
Crieghton led the way for the Lyons with a match-high seven kills, finishing the night with a .462 attacking percentage. Sarah Alexander put down six kills against Lasell, while Kendall Jacobs finished with five and both Dubose and Casey Hess had four.
Defensively, Cathryn MacGregor led all players with a match-high eight block solos and a team-high eight digs, while Hess ended the night with three block solos.
Odina Ellis led Lasell with a match-high seven kills, while Michele Canestro had a match-high 13 digs.
vs. CLARKSON
Crieghton and Cansler teamed up to lead the way for Wheaton against #13 Clarkson, ending the match with a team-high four kills. Elise Waelder led the defense with a match-high three block assists, while Jacobs earned two block solos and a block assist. Wilson did her best to setup her teammates, picking up 10 assists. Martin led the Lyons with eight digs, while O. Wilson had seven and Deirdre Wilson five.
Aishvina Arasu led all players with 11 kills, while teammate Victoria Kirkemo ended the night with eight.
UP NEXT
The Lyons conclude play at the Roger Williams Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 5 with a match against the host team at 10 a.m., followed by a game with Berry.
