NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College volleyball team defeated visiting Salve Regina 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-21) on Thursday night in Emerson Gymnasium.

With the win the Lyons improve to 5-6 on the season and a perfect 2-0 at home. The Seahawks slip to 4-6 overall.

Deirdre Wilson led all players with a match-high 10 kills, while Kendall Jacobs and Arieanne Creighton each picked up nine. Wilson also dished out a match-high 21 assists and Cari Sheets added 16. Sarah Alexander had a match-high four blocks for Wheaton, while both Jacobs and Taylor Matook finished with two.

Erin Proctor and Mackenzie Donald each finished with five kills for Salve Regina, while Proctor dished out a team-high 14 assists. Samantha Higgins and Cassidy Trablicy each knocked down three blocks for the Seahawks.

Wheaton started the first set on fire, running up a quick 7-2 advantage with kills from Jacobs, Creighton and Elise Waelder. Salve Regina would not go down without a fight, battling back within a point, making it 23-22 after a strong 7-0 run. Depite the comeback, kills by Creighton and Matook ended the set in the Lyons favor.

The Lyons could not be tamed in the second set, running away with a dominating 25-14 victory. Wheaton finished the set with a solid .344 attacking percentage, while Salve Regina hit just .150.

The third set started off tightly contested with the two sides trading possession of the lead. Tied at 17-17, the Lyons picked up three consecutive points that proved to be the difference maker. The points put enough space between the Lyons and the Seahawks, dismantling any thoughts of a fourth set for Salve Regina.

The Lyons return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19 against WPI (11:00 a.m.) and Gordon (1:00 p.m.) at WPI.
