Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – With a 3-1 win over Clark University of Saturday afternoon, the Wheaton College men's soccer team secured the No. 2 seed in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament.
The win moves the Lyons to 11-7 on the season and 5-2 in conference action. Clark falls to 6-10-1 overall and 1-6 in the NEWMAC. The win is the ninth straight time that the Lyons have defeated the Cougars, dating back to 2008.
The visitors got on the board in the 15th minute when Amara Sesay scored off an excellent feed from first-year Ian Fromhein.
Wheaton's lead doubled less than 10 minutes later when Sean Hurlburt connected with Pat O'Rourke for O'Rouke's second goal of the season at the 22:06 mark.
The Lyons extended their lead to 3-0 early into the second half when Kevin Gil converted a penalty kick.
The hosts avoided the shutout with a goal in the 81st minute from Jack Stark.
James Bailey made seven saves in net for the Lyons, earning his sixth win of the season. Connor Maguire picked up the loss for Clark after making eight stops.
With the No. 2 seed, the Lyons will face Babson on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1:30 p.m. at MIT.
