Men's Soccer Scores Senior Day Win over Coast Guard

Box Score

NORTON, Mass. – Knocking in two goals each half, the Wheaton College men's soccer team shut out the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Bears, 4-0, on Senior Day. Prior to the game, the team honored its seniors Sanjit Basak-Smith, John Calcagno, Michael Cronin, Matt Dickey, Kevin Gil, Noah Kossoff, Jackson Towle and Michael Williams.

This homecoming victory advances the Lyons to 10-7 overall and 4-2 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. They are currently ranked second in NEWMAC right behind the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Matisse Baumann got things going for Wheaton as he found an open Pat O'Rourke who took a shot in the 10th minute that blazed over the goalkeeper for the first goal of the game.

The Coast Guard placed a few corner kicks near the net, but came up empty as Wheaton's defense blocked all shot attempts.

Later on in the half, Amara Sesay crossed a pass to the right side of the box to Gil where he found his opportunity to shoot in a goal that hit the back left side of the net to bring the Lyons up, 2-0. This was his sixth goal of the season.

Not letting up in the second half, Wheaton came out powerful and the offense took control as Kossoff punched through a laser of a shot on the left side of the net from about thirty yards out to clutch his eighth goal of the season.

Wheaton's drive didn't stop there because within two minutes Kossoff connected with Williams who knocked in his fifth goal of the season into the back right corner of the net to bring the Lyons ahead, 4-0.

The Bears put forth a few more shot attempts, but were denied by Wheaton's defense and goalkeeper Dickey. Dickey collected his fifth win of the season while tallying three big saves in the 90 minutes of play.

This is Wheaton's sixth shutout win of the season as the Lyons outshot the Bears 23-11.

The Lyons travel to Clark University (5-9-1, 1-5 NEWMAC) on Saturday in their final regular season matchup with game time scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
