Box Score Wilson logs eight kills, ten assists and 11 digs in the loss
AMHERST, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Bowdoin College on day one of the Hall of Fame Tournament, hosted by Smith College and Amherst College, on Friday night by scores of 25-15, 25-22 and 28-26.
Wheaton junior outside hitter/setter Deirdre Wilson (Aptos, Calif./Aptos) led the Lyons with eight kills, ten assists and 11 digs on the night. Classmate Arieanne Creighton (Brookline, N.H./Hollis Brookline) matched Wilson with eight kills (.500 hitting percentage), while sophomore Colleen Koen (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable) notched six putaways and two digs.
Defensively, first-year Stephanie Martin (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable) tallied ten digs, two assists and three service aces, while sophomore Caitlin Hellebrand (Corona, Calif./Santiago) chipped in with eight digs and 19 assists.
Bowdoin junior outside hitter Christy Jewett (Sunnyvale, Calif./King's Academy) paced all student-athletes with 16 kills (.500 hitting percentage), six digs, one block solo and one block assist. Sophomore Clare Geyer (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) added eight kills, while classmate Erika Sklaver (Miami Beach, Fla./Ransom Everglades School) registered seven putaways (.583 hitting percentage) and four blocks (one solo).
Sophomore setter Quincy Leech (Durham, N.C./Durham Academy) dished out 19 assists and first-year setter Clare McInerney (Auburn, Calif./Placer) handed out 18 assists to run the offense. Sophomore outside hitter Katie Doherty (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo Atherton) also compiled a match-high 21 digs in the win for the Polar Bears.
Wheaton (16-11, 5-3 NEWMAC) returns to action tomorrow against Wesleyan and Williams on day two of the Hall of Fame Tournament, hosted by Smith College and Amherst College.
