Creighton notches 25 kills in two matches

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Wheaton College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday afternoon against host Connecticut College and Keene State College.

CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 3, WHEATON 2
(25-20, 18-25, 16-25, 25-22, 9-15)

Wheaton sophomore outside hitter Arieanne Creighton (Brookline, N.H./Hollis Brookline) compiled a career-high and match-high 15 kills on 23 swings for a .435 hitting percentage, two assists, three digs and two blocks (one solo) to pace the offense in the five-set thriller.

Classmate Deirdre Wilson (Aptos, Calif./Aptos) facilitated the attack with eight kills, 20 assists, two service aces, 11 digs and two blocks (one solo). Sophomore setter Page Gustofson (South Lake Tahoe, Calif./South Tahoe) notched a double-double with 16 assists and ten digs, while defensive specialist Robyn D'Agostino (Three Bridges, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) turned in 16 digs.

KEENE STATE 3, WHEATON 1
(22-25, 26-28, 25-19, 20-25)

Creighton powered the offense again in the Lyons second match of the day with ten kills (21 attempts), two service aces and one block assist. Wilson added seven kills and ten digs, while sophomore middle hitter Elise Waelder (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) fell one kill shy of her first double-double of the season with nine kills and 12 digs.

Wilson posted 22 assists and ten digs for her second-straight double-double to go along with seven kills. Sophomores Taylor Matook (Exeter, R.I./Exeter-West Greenwich) and Kendall Jacobs (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) and freshman Gaby Gryko (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo) chipped in with five kills apiece.

Gustofson tallied 20 assists and four digs to help run the offense and D'Agostino guided the defense against the Owls with a season-high 19 digs to go along with four service aces and one assist.

Wheaton (3-3) travels to Mount Ida College on Tuesday, September 10 for a non-conference match at 6 p.m.
