Box Score 2 Gustofson records 600th career assist
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Wheaton College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the Johnson & Wales Invitational as the Lyons posted a 3-0 victory over Mount Ida after dropping a 3-0 decision to Middlebury earlier in the afternoon.
Sophomore outside hitter Taylor Matook (Exeter, R.I./Exeter-West Greenwich) tallied a team-high ten kills (.714 hitting percentage) and three digs combined in both matches, while senior right-side hitter Lindsay Tebbetts (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) compiled nine kills (.571 hitting percentage), two digs and two block assists.
Page Gustofson (South Lake Tahoe, Calif./South Tahoe) dished out 23 assists en route to recording her 600th career helper in a Lyons' uniform. Gustofson entered day two of the invitational with 588 assists. Sophomore libero Robyn D'Agostino (Three Bridges, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) turned in 19 digs and three service aces.
Sophomore outside hitter Deirdre Wilson (Aptos, Calif./Aptos) rounded out the list of highlights on the afternoon with six kills, 20 assists, two service aces, 15 digs and two block assists.
MIDDLEBURY 3, WHEATON 0
(18-25, 12-25, 18-25)
Wilson led the charge against the Panthers putting away five kills while recording a double-double with ten assists and 15 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Arieanne Creighton (Brookline, N.H./Hollis Brookline) and classmate Kendall Jacobs (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) combined for eight kills, one service ace and three digs.
Middlebury notched 39 kills on 96 attempts for a .323 hitting percentage and dished out 34 assists to go along with ten service aces and 37 digs.
WHEATON 3, MOUNT IDA 0
(25-15, 25-13, 25-19)
Matook and Tebbetts were the difference versus the Mustangs as the duo combined for 17 kills playing in just two sets, apiece. Gustofson handed out 15 assists and registered six digs. Sophomore middle hitter Elise Waelder (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) aided the offense with five kills, one assist, one service ace, four digs and one block assist.
Offensively, the Lyons put down 39 kills on seven errors and 74 attempts total for a .432 hitting percentage.
Wheaton (6-5) travels to Brandeis University on Tuesday, September 17 for a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m.
