Women's Volleyball Goes 2-1 At Wheaton Invitational

D'Agostino records 16 service aces, 30 digs in three matches

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's volleyball team went 2-1 overall in its own invitational on Saturday evening at Emerson Gymnasium hosting Simmons College, Southern Vermont College and Western New England University.

Sophomore middle hitter Kendall Jacobs (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) led the Lyons' attack recording 19 kills on 48 total swings. Jacobs also added four assists, nine digs and two block assists.

Classmate Taylor Matook (Exeter, R.I./Exeter-West Greenwich) notched 17 kills, while senior right-side hitter Lindsay Tebbetts (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) tallied 16 kills and sophomores Deirdre Wilson (Aptos, Calif./Aptos) and Elise Waelder (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) contributed 15 kills apiece.

Defensively, sophomore libero Robyn D'Agostino (Three Bridges, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional), who was named to the All-Tournament team, guided the Blue and White with 30 digs for an average of 2.50 digs per set. D'Agostino also compiled a team-high 16 service aces in three matches played. Waelder turned in 22 digs and seven block assists, junior defensive specialist Megan Donahue (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) had 18 digs and Wilson chipped in with 16 digs and six block assists.

WHEATON 3, SIMMONS 2

The Lyons recovered from a 2-0 deficit versus the Sharks to grab their first victory of the season in the opening match of the invitational. From the third set on, Jacobs and Waelder combined for ten kills (.300) and four block assists to help Wheaton pull away. At the service line, the Lyons produced ten service aces including six from D'Agostino down the stretch.

WHEATON 3, SOUTHERN VERMONT 0

Wheaton was led by Matook and Tebbetts offensively as the front row duo notched 13 kills, a .391 hitting percentage and four digs. Matook guided the Lyons in the last set, a 25-22 victory, with four kills and one dig. D'Agostino nearly put set one away by herself holding service for eight straight points lifting Wheaton's advantage from 15-9 to 23-9 using four service aces along the way.

WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 3, WHEATON 1

The Lyons comeback bid fell short after falling behind 2-0 against the Golden Bears in the final match of the invite. Wheaton notched a 25-19 victory in set three as Matook posted a team-high three kills and D'Agostino pitched in with two service aces and two digs. Jacobs led Wheaton in the match with nine kills total and two digs.
