Box Score 2 Hess guides Lyons with six kills versus Bowdoin
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's volleyball team lost a pair of non-conference matches on day two of the Hall of Fame Tournament, hosted by Smith College and Mount Holyoke College, with 3-0 setbacks to Tufts University and Bowdoin College on Saturday afternoon.
Against Bowdoin, sophomore right-side hitter Casey Hess (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) led the Lyons with six kills, two digs and one block assist. Classmate Deirdre Wilson (Aptos, Calif./Aptos) notched four kills, 14 assists, one service ace, eight digs, and three blocks (one solo, two assist).
Senior Lindsay Tebbetts (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) registered three kills and one dig, while sophomore Arieanne Creighton (Brookline, N.H./Hollis Brookline) added two kills, two digs and one block assist. Defensively, sophomore Kendall Jacobs (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) tallied a team-high 15 digs, one kills and three blocks (one solo, two assists).
Wheaton dropped its three-set match with Bowdoin by scores of 15-25, 15-25, and 21-25. The Lyons hit .103 on versus Polar Bears with 18 assists, two service aces, 36 digs, two block solos and ten block assists. Bowdoin hit .182 with 31 kills, 30 assists, ten service aces, 40 digs and 20 block assists.
Bowdoin freshman Katie Doherty (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo Atherton) paced all student-athletes with ten kills, two service aces, four digs and two block assists. Classmate Quincy Leech (Durham, N.C./Durham Academy) compiled a team-high 20 assists to go along with one kill, one service ace and one dig.
Wheaton (14-15, 4-4 NEWMAC) travels to Babson College for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Tuesday, October 29 at 7 p.m.
