Box Score 2 NORTHAMPTON, Mass.- The Wheaton College women's volleyball team held a 2-0 edge before losing 3-2 (25-21, 25-22, 18-25, 20-25, 9-15) to Colby College and then fell to nationally-ranked Bowdoin College by a 3-0 (16-25, 16-25, 9-25) count to finish the Hall of Fame Tournament on Saturday at fellow New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) school Smith College inside Scott Gymnasium.
The Lyons drop to 9-20 on the season. Colby, which is receiving votes in the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) poll, improved to 12-8. Ranked 24th nationally by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and first in New England, Bowdoin raised its record to 23-2.
Freshman Kendall Jacobs (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) was named to the all-tournament team. Against Colby, she had six kills and four blocks. Classmate Deirdre Wilson (Aptos, Calif./Aptos) finished with 11 kills, 17 digs and four blocks, while junior Lindsay Tebbetts (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) had six kills and five blocks.
First-year setters Page Gustofson (South Lake Tahoe, Calif./South Tahoe) and Jackie Kochiss (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) notched 17 and 16 assists, respectively. Gustofson added 13 digs and Kochiss eight with three service aces.
Freshman Robyn D'Agostino (Three Bridges, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) led the team with 19 digs.
Versus Bowdoin, Tebbetts led the hitters with four kills, while Jacobs and freshman Sarah Alexander (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) contributed three each.
Gustofson turned in 10 assists and four digs, and Kochiss accounted for six helpers and five digs. Wilson added a pair of service aces and four digs.
On Tuesday, the Lyons return to league action at Clark University, where a Wheaton win would put it another step closer in its quest to qualify for the six-team NEWMAC Tournament. Tuesday's match in Worcester is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
