Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Mass.- The Wheaton College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches at Bridgewater State University's Tinsley Center on Saturday, falling to the host in five (25-18, 21-25, 25-22, 16-25, 14-16) before getting swept by Western Connecticut State University, 3-0 (21-25, 24-26, 19-25). The Lyons are now 8-17 overall.
Against the host, freshman Deirdre Wilson (Aptos, Calif./Aptos) notched a double-double with a match-best 18 kills and 12 digs. Classmate Arieanne Creighton (Brookline, N.H./Hollis Brookline) finished with eight kills and five blocks, while freshman Kendall Jacobs (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) had seven kills.
Freshman Page Gustofson (South Lake Tahoe, Calif./South Tahoe) handed out 24 assists, and classmate Jackie Kochiss (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) had 16 helpers.
Defensively, senior Frances Trimble (Rapid City, S.D./Northfield Mount Hermon School) led the way with 13 digs.
Freshman Elise Waelder (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) recorded six blocks and four service aces, while junior Lindsay Tebbetts (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) also had six blocks.
Versus Western Connecticut State, Jacobs was credited with 11 kills, and Wilson and freshman Anastasia Tammen (San Pedro, Calif./Montgomery) added six kills apiece. Wilson also accounted for 12 digs, while Tammen had seven.
Waleder turned in five kills and three service aces, Gustofson and Kochiss tallied 18 and 11 assists, respectively, while freshman Robyn D'Agostino (Three Bridges, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) led all players with 17 digs.
Wheaton returns to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday night against the region's top-ranked team in Wellesley College at 7:00 p.m. In addition to being ranked first in the region by the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA), the Blue is receiving national votes in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll.
