NEW LONDON, N.H. - Junior Federico Kelly (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) scored his third goal of the season in Wheaton College's 2-1 loss at Colby-Sawyer College in non-conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Kevin Flaherty (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) and freshman Clay Allen (Massena, N.Y./New Hampton Prep) scored first-half goals to propel the Chargers (2-3-0) to their second win of the season. The loss leaves the Lyons at 1-3-2.

Flaherty opened the scoring at 7:50 when he potted his first goal of the season to give Colby-Sawyer a 1-0 lead. The Chargers doubled their lead at 32:37 on Allen's second marker of 2011. The Lyons outshot the Chargers 9-4 in the first half.

In the second half, Kelly cut the Lyons deficit in half with his team-leading third goal of the season at 71:50. Senior tri-captain David Turina (North Yarmouth, Maine/Northfield Mount Hermon School) sent a pass over to Kelly, who buried the shot past CSC freshman goalkeeper Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I./Westerly).

Wheaton outshot the Chargers 10-4 in the second half but was unable to get the equalizer. The Lyons closed the match with a 19-8 edge in that category, but Austin recorded 10 saves to earn his first collegiate victory. Freshman Jeff Paer (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) was credited with two saves for Wheaton.

The Lyons return to action tomorrow when they play at Southern Vermont at 1 p.m. The Chargers host New England College Wednesday at 4 p.m.
