HARTFORD, Conn. - The Wheaton College women's volleyball team suffered a pair of 3-0 setbacks to regionally-ranked Roger Williams University and Trinity College on Saturday at Trinity's Oosting Gymnasium. The Lyons lost 21-25, 19-25 and 13-25 to the hosts before falling 14-25, 10-25 and 19-25 to the Hawks.
Wheaton is now 8-8 on the season. Ranked seventh in the region by the New England Women's Volleyball Coaches Association (NEWVA), Trinity improved to 8-2, while eighth-ranked Roger Williams raised its record to 13-2.
Against the Bantams, freshman Jackie Jones (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) accounted for 11 kills, while sophomore Christina Cannon (Milford, N.H./Milford) and freshman Lindsay Tebbetts (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford) combined for nine. Senior Becca Rose (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) finished with 24 assists.
Senior Kristen Hunt (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) totaled 23 digs, Jones had eight and sophomore Olanna Nissim (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) added seven.
Versus the Hawks, Jones again reached double-figure kills with 10, while Rose had 17 assists and eight digs. Junior Emily Davisson (Carpinteria, Calif./Laguna Blanca School) notched 13 digs, and Hunt was credited with nine.
The Lyons next host Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
