Lyons collect 10th win following 2-0 shutout at Saint Joseph's

Box Score

STANDISH, Maine - Going with a different lineup on Sunday, the Wheaton College men's soccer team scored a goal in each half, and senior keeper Stefan Viragh (Columbus, Ohio/Wellington School) recorded a shutout during a 2-0 non-conference victory over Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Westerlea Way Field.

Ranked sixth in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), the Lyons reached 10 wins for the 19th consecutive season, including each of head coach Matt Cushing's 17 campaigns.  Wheaton is 10-5-2, while the Monks fell to 6-10-2.

Sophomore back Howard Manly (Ayer, Mass./Lawrence Academy) played a part in both goals, including assisting on junior Conor Finn's (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) first career game-winner off of a throw-in just over six minutes before the intermission.

Midway through the second half, freshman Adam Sholi (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) tallied for the first time of his young career, with Manly picking up the helper.

Controlling play throughout, Wheaton held a 38-12 advantage in shots and nearly added to its lead in the second frame when senior Tristan Back (London, England/King Alfred School) and sophomore Will Nesbitt (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) each smacked a post.

Viragh finished with three saves in the victory, while Saint Joseph's junior Nick Campasano (Gofffstown, N.H./Goffstown Area) had 16 stops.

The Lyons complete their regular season on Saturday at New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at 1:00 p.m.
