WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - The Wheaton College women's volleyball team dropped its fourth straight match Friday night at Eastern Connecticut State University, falling to the Warriors, 3-0 (18-25, 19-25, 21-25) in a non-league match at Geissler Gymnasium.
The Lyons dip to 8-10, while Eastern improves to 7-8, which includes a 5-1 home mark.
Senior Kaitlyn Stokes (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury Memorial) and freshman Jackie Jones (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) led the visitors with seven and six kills, respectively. Senior Becca Rose (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) accounted for 21 assists, seven digs and five service aces. With 236 career aces, Rose stands just five shy of tying the third-highest total in program history.
Defensively, senior Kristen Hunt (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) totaled 15 digs, while junior Emily Davisson (Carpinteria, Calif./Laguna Blanca School) and sophomore Olanna Nissim (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) joined Rose with seven.
Warrior junior Kristianna Ibsen (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) turned in a match-best 13 kills and hit .500, while classmate Samantha Slonski (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) recorded 29 assists. Junior Britt Carrier (Southington, Conn./Southington) added nine digs
Eastern led 5-1 to begin play and eventually scored the final five points in extending its 20-18 edge. In the middle set, the hosts rattled off eight straight points to move out to a 9-3 lead and didn't trail the rest of the way. Clinging to a 15-14 advantage in the final set, Wheaton gave way to an 8-0 Warrior run before falling.
The Blue and White returns to New England and Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday with a road match against Wellesley College at 7:00 p.m. Wellesley is ranked 12th in the region by the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA).
