Alexander Evans enters his fifth season with Wheaton and his second as the primary Coach for the Men's and Women's Cross Country teams in addition to serving as an Assistant Coach for the Men's and Women's Track & Field programs for the 2024-25 academic year.
In a short amount of time with the Lyons, Evans has already tutored the school's first NCAA Cross Country Championship qualifier since 2004 and seen 107 top-10 track & field marks established. Wheaton has broken seven records and had 39 student-athletes earn medals at the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship, including the gold eight times. In addition, five Lyons earned a chance to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championship during Evans' time in Norton. Evans works specifically with Wheaton's distance runners on the track side of his duties and has seen 29 top-10 marks come to fruition in addition to the men's mile and 3,000 meter standards fall as well as the 10,000 meters on both the men's and women's side.
Under his direction, the Lyons produced their first men's All-Region cross country runner since 2004 when Dominic Sclafani earned the honor in 2022, while Jaz Vanderhoof became the first women's cross country runner to achieve All-Region status in back-to-back years (2023 & 2024) since 2008.
Prior to Wheaton, Evans made an impact with Suffolk University cross country in just two seasons with a pair of harriers qualifying for the NCAA Championship and one competitor earning All-America status for indoor track & field. The New Hampshire native also guided seven Great Northeast Athletic Conference Champions between cross country and indoor track & field and helped the Rams capture the GNAC Indoor crown.
Evans has overseen tremendous success at the prep level as well, coaching the Indoor Track & Field program at Norton High School. Under his direction, the Lancers have broken 29 school records, while winning five individual Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association titles. Six of his competitors and four relays have qualified for the New Balance National Indoor Championship, eight have been named MIAA All-Stars, three were All-New England finishers and seven earned Tri-Valley League Most Valuable Performer honors.
Evans graduated in the spring of 2017 with a degree in Communication from Bryant University. As an undergraduate at Bryant, Alexander was a four-year member of the track & field and cross country teams and served as Captain his senior year. Upon graduation, Evans earned a Master of Arts in Communication with High Honors from Bryant in 2018.
