Boyer Named MPSF Men's Water Polo Newcomer of the Week

NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College (Mass.) men's water polo player Nic Boyer (Toledo, Ohio) was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation East/S&R Sport Newcomer of the Week for the week of October 13-19, it was announced by the league.

Boyer becomes just the second player in school history to earn the award after Spyros Rapsomanikis (Kerkyra, Greece) was chosen for the week of September 16-22 last season.

Boyer made 33 saves for a .465 save percentage, while adding a goal and nine steals in three games. The first year was instrumental in the Lyons' first-ever victory in program history, making a school-record 18 saves, while adding six steals in a 16-13 win over Washington & Jefferson on October 18. Later that day, the St. Francis de sales High School product stopped 12 shots and added a steal against No. 10 Augustana College. Boyer capped the week with three saves, a goal and a pair of steals vs. Austin College on October 19.

For the season, Boyer leads Wheaton with 83 saves and a .391 save percentage to go with a 21.50 goals against average in 192 minutes of action in seven contests. The rookie has stopped 11 or more shots in five contests in net for the Lyons. The Forensics major also has 16 steals, a goal and three assists to his credit in his combined play between the field as an attacker and in goal in 13 games this season.

Wheaton is currently 1-12 overall and 1-2 in MPSF play and will be in action again when it hosts league foe Connecticut College on November 7 at 6:00 p.m. in Balfour Natatorium.
