Men's Water Polo Falls at Austin, 25-4

SHERMAN, Texas -- The Wheaton College (Mass.) men's water polo team fell to host Austin College, 25-4, in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation East Divisional at Hannah Natatorium in Sherman, Texas. 

The Lyons drop to 0-15, while the Kangaroos improve to 10-6. 

Austin boasted a 40-30 shot advantage in the game. All four of Wheaton's goals came with a player advantage. 

First year 2-meter Michael Ruemelin (Chicago, Ill.) netted four goals to lead the Lyons, while first year 2M defender Jack Ruggiero (Hamden, Conn.) made three steals and handed out a trio of assists. First year keeper Dylan Boccali (Ventura, Calif.) turned away eight shots and came up with a steal.

Sophomore attacker Josh Nelms (San Antonio, Texas) led all players with five goals for the 'Roos and added a steal and senior center Andrew Galt (Carroll, Texas) scored three times to go with an assist. Sophomore center Sebastian Scheier (La Palma, Calif.) contributed with three goals as well. Junior goalie Liam Roberts (Shingle Springs, Calif.) stopped five shots and recorded a steal, while first year keeper Caleb Maddox (Mesquite, Texas) was credited with seven saves.

Austin netted the first four goals of the match to take a 4-0 lead, including a pair of scores from Galt. Wheaton tallied two of the next three goals with both coming from Ruemelin to cut the deficit to 5-2 in the first quarter. 

The Kangaroos tacked on four more goals, led by two goals from Nelms, to increase the home team's lead to 9-2 in the second quarter. 

Ruemelin netted his third score to pull the Lyons within 9-3, but Austin effectively put the game away with 11 unanswered goals to take a commanding 20-3 cushion. Scheier tallied three goals during the outburst for the 'Roos.

Ruemelin gave Wheaton its final marker in the third quarter to make it 20-4, before Austin netted the final five goals of the day.

The Lyons return to the pool on Wednesday, November 13 when they travel to Connecticut College at 7:00 p.m., while the Kangaroos head to Los Angeles, Calif. on November 22 to compete in the MPSF Championship.
