Field Hockey Falls at Endicott, 4-1

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) field hockey team scored on a third of its shots in a 4-1 loss at host Endicott College this evening at North Field in Beverly, Mass.

The Lyons' three-game win streak comes to an end as they slip to 3-2 on the season, while the Gulls improve to 4-1.

Endicott owned a 41-3 shot advantage, including 19-1 in the opening half. Despite the shot disparity, senior keeper Emma Lapreziosa (Bowdoinham, Maine) was outstanding in the cage for Wheaton, making a career-high 20 saves.

The Gulls also held a 17-2 margin on penalty corners, but the Lyons trailed by just two goals in the third quarter.

Lyon junior midfielder Lydia Gaudreau (Gorham, Maine) tallied her fourth goal of the season to extend her consecutive-game goal-scoring streak to four straight contests. The marker came on a penalty corner with 6:09 left in the third quarter when sophomore Mackenna Cooke (Old Saybrook, Conn.) sent a pass from the top of the circle to the left wing. Gaudreau received the pass and finished for the goal to cut the deficit to 3-1 for Wheaton.

Junior forward Kathleen Reissfelder (Westwood, Mass.) got the score back for Endicott with a rebound shot, resulting in her third tally of the night to give her a hat trick with just 32 ticks left in the third quarter. The marker ended a scoring drought of more than 23 minutes for the home team.

Lapreziosa stopped all five shots she faced in the fourth period for the Lyons to keep it a 4-1 game.

Reissfelder opened the scoring just 2:03 into the match when she scored on a feed from sophomore forward Maddy Dengler (Winchester, Mass.) to give the Gulls a 1-0 edge. She repeated her effort just six minutes and a second later to give the home team a two-goal margin.

Dangler tallied a goal of her own, midway through the second quarter, when she brought the ball up on the left side to go one-on-one with the Wheaton goalie, before finding the back of the cage with 8:56 remaining in the first half for a 3-0 lead.

Sophomore forward Riley Levrault (Lakeville, Mass.) also contributed to the Lyons' offensive effort with a pair of shots, including one on frame.

Sophomore keeper Alexis DeMattia (Methuen, Mass.) finished with a save for Endicott.

Wheaton returns to action on Saturday, September 16, taking on Wellesley College at 4:00 p.m. to open the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference slate, pending the weather. The Gulls will be in action again when they travel to Dudley, Mass. on the same day to take on Nichols College at 2:00 p.m.
