Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Wheaton College (Mass.) field hockey team was defeated by Springfield College, 4-0, this evening on Stagg Field in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference action on the campus of Springfield in Springfield, Mass.
The Lyons fall to 2-9, 0-3 in league play, while the Pride improve to 4-6, 1-2.
Audrey Bresciano (Greenfield, Mass.) tallied two goals and an assist to pace the Springfield offense.
The Pride owned a decisive 13-3 shot advantage.
Springfield broke through for the game's first goal at the 14:21 mark. Off a restart, Emma Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) was able to deliver a centering pass which Audrey Dolan (Westminster, Mass.) redirected towards the end line. Bresciano managed to run onto the ball and send a low-angle shot towards the cage that Claire Munkacsi (Gorham, Maine) jammed over the goal line for her first career strike.
The Pride scored at the 27th minute after Molly Collins (Franklin, Mass.) blasted a drive from the 35-yard line that Kalista Fontanella (Avon, Conn.) was able to get her stick on and redirect the ball towards the cage for Bresciano to increase Springfield's lead 2-0 going into the intermission.
Springfield struck again just over a minute into the third quarter as Fontanella beat her defender to the endline and delivered a centering pass that Bresciano was able to collect, turn, and fire a shot into the bottom left corner of the cage for her second marker of the game. The Pride's final goal of the contest came with just 2:15 remaining in the game when Dolan connected with Camryn Morano (Middleboro, Mass.), who blistered a reverse sweep into the back of the cage.
Junior keeper Emma Lapreziosa (Bowdoinham, Maine) made five saves for the Lyons, while junior goalie Remy Niland (Marshfield, Mass.) earned the win with three saves for the Pride.
Wheaton returns to action on Saturday, October 8 when it hosts NEWMAC foe Clark University at 12:00 p.m., while the Pride travel to Babson Park, Mass. on the same day for a 12:00 p.m. game.
