Box Score NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College (Mass.) field hockey team was defeated by Mount Holyoke College 2-1 in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference action this afternoon on Nordin Field in Norton, Mass.
The Lyons conclude the 2022 season at 3-15 overall and 1-7 in league play, while MHC finishes at 6-11 and 1-7.
Prior to today's contest, Wheaton held a pre-game ceremony to honor the field hockey program's senior class of Sophie Shekarchi (Jamestown, R.I.), Hannah Desmarais (Seekonk, Mass.), Bridget Healy (Holyoke, Mass.) and Gabby Monfredo (Worcester, Mass.).
The Lyons held their guests scoreless in the first quarter, despite 11 shots. Healy made a defensive save at the 10 minute mark in the first quarter for the Lyons.
Shekarchi opened the scoring for the Lyons in the second quarter with a one versus one breakaway with the goalie at the 22nd minute mark to tally her team-leading sixth goal of the season. In less than three minutes later, Mount Holyoke responded with a goal from sophomore forward Jayonna Montigny (Enfield, Conn.) off of a penalty corner that she tipped in on a shot from the left side.
First year midfielder Anna Induni (Manchester, N.H.) tallied her first collegiate goal at the 34th minute in a scrum in front of the cage off of a pass from senior midfielder Mollee Malboeuf (Fitchburg, Mass.) to give the visiting Lyons a 2-1 advantage over Wheaton.
Mount Holyoke owned a 20-8 shot advantage and a 7-3 margin on penalty corners for the game.
Junior keeper Emma Lapreziosa (Bowdoinham, Maine) made seven saves for the Lyons, while MHC sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Katzenberg (Reisterstown, Md.) also stopped seven shots for the day.
