Field Hockey Edges Out Anna Maria in Overtime

PAXTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College field hockey team grabbed their third straight win in a 4-3 overtime victory against the Anna Maria College AMCATS on Tuesday to remain undefeated at the start of the season.

In the first half, the Lyons (3-0) remained quiet on offense as the AMCATS scored the lone goal in the seventh minute of game play.

Entering the second half, Wheaton's offense sparked as sophomore Katie Peters put one through for the team's first goal in the 35th minute making it 1-1, she was assisted by junior Amelia Gage.

The AMCATS quickly responded with a goal of their own in the 36th minute, regaining the lead, but the Lyons didn't stop there as Gage added her own goal unassisted to tie it back up. Senior Kelsey Harris continued the momentum for Wheaton as she knocked one through for a goal of her own, bringing the Lyons up 3-2.

It was Anna Maria's goal in the 66th minute that tied up the game, forcing an overtime where Wheaton's Harris shot in the game winning goal with an assist from Gage in the 74th minute to win it for the Lyons.

The Lyons outshot the AMCATS 26-10, while also having the advantage in corners (18-9). Gage ended the game with game-high eight shots with Peters following her with five.

Wheaton continues on the road with action at Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
