PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Three goals proved to be enough as the Wheaton College field hockey team defeated Johnson & Wales 3-2 on Tuesday night at Scotts Athletic Complex. 

The Lyons improve to 6-3 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 1-8. 

Wheaton struck early with a goal by Kelsey Harris just five minutes into the contest. The Wildcats never stood a chance as the Lyon senior came barreling down the field along with two teammates, setting up a three versus one situation. Amelia Gage picked up the assist. 

Gage and Harris setup the next Wheaton goal just two minutes later. Taking the teams penalty corner, Harris fed the ball to Gage at the top of the circle, who quickly slotted it into Kelsey Buckley. The goal is Buckley's fourth of the season. 

The Wildcats cut the deficit to one goal in the 30th minute with a goal by Shaina Thompson. 

Wheaton earned the goal back just two minutes later. With the ball loose in front of the box, Brooke Dugan found Michelle Trainor, putting the Lyons up 3-1 at the half. 

Johnson & Wales once again pulled within a goal, finding the back of the net 15 minutes into the second half on a Giovanna Ciavardoni goal. 

Riley Thompson picked up the win for Wheaton, making five saves on seven shots on goal. Shannon Yoder earned the loss for the Wildcats after coming up with 15 saves on 18 shots on goal.

Wheaton returns to the field on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. against Springfield College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Nordin Field.
