Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. - The Wheaton College field hockey team picked up a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win over Clark University on Saturday afternoon, defeating the hosts 3-1.
With the win the Lyons move to 8-5 on the season and 1-4 in conference action. The Courgars fall to 5-9 overall and 1-4 in the NEWMAC. The Wheaton win evens the all-time series, which dates back to 1978, at 13-13.
Wheaton got things going in the 12th minute with a Michelle Trainor goal off a penalty corner. Sophomore Kelsey Buckley was credited with the assist.
Sophomore Katie Peters made it a 2-0 game at the 29:20 mark with an unassisted goal. Peters setup the next Lyon goal moments later, finding an open Buckley in the shooting circle.
Clark managed to earn a goal back at the end of the first period with a converted penalty corner by Maria Manning.
Riley Thompson earned her seventh win of the season, playing the complete game for Wheaton, making nine saves. Dani Michaud picked up the loss in goal for the Cougars, falling to 2-1.
The Lyons return to the field on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. when they host Babson in NEWMAC action.
