UMass Dartmouth Shuts Out Wheaton, 5-0

Taylor registers natural hat trick in win

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College field hockey team lost to UMass Dartmouth, 5-0, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at Nordin Field. 

UMass Dartmouth senior forward Eleanor Taylor (Fairhaven, Mass./Bishop Stang) buried three goals to lift the Corsairs to victory. Classmate Devon Herlihy (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) added her fourth marker of the season at the 63:35 mark, while senior Victoria Dolce (Jamestown, R.I./North Kingstown) rounded out the scoring at 68:28. 

Wheaton junior goalkeeper Madison Wolters (Marstons Mills, Mass./Barnstable) turned aside seven shots in the loss. Corsairs' senior goalkeeper Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, Mass./Old Rochester Regional) recorded a game-high eight saves. 

Taylor put UMass Dartmouth ahead by a 1-0 margin in the 26th minute redirecting a feed by sophomore Alison Ladue (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) from the right side of the circle for her team-leading fifth goal of the year. 

In the 47th minute, Taylor put home a loose ball in front of Wolters for her second tally of the game and made it 3-0 at 50:16 converting a penalty stroke into upper right corner of the cage. 

The Corsairs outshot the Lyons 17-11 in the contest and also held a 22-4 differential in penalty corners. 

Wheaton (3-6, 0-1 NEWMAC) hosts Smith College on Saturday, September 28 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup at 1 p.m. UMass Dartmouth (5-2), winners of its last five games, heads to Tufts University on Tuesday, September 24 for a non-conference contest at 6 p.m.
