Box Score NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA- The Wheaton College field hockey team
struck in the first three minutes of play Thursday night at the
University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth before giving way to five
Corsair goals in suffering a 5-1 setback at Cressy Field.
Wheaton falls to 2-1 following its first road contest of the
fall, while UMass-Dartmouth collects its second straight win to
move to 2-1. All three Corsair opponents have been members of
the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
Junior forward Julia Atwood (Concord, MA/Brooks
School) provided the Lyons with an early spark after
scoring her first goal of the season 2:43 in, but the hosts took
the lead for good with a pair of tallies 5:12 apart approaching the
midway point of the opening frame. UMass-Dartmouth put the
game out of reach with a trio of second-half tallies during a 5:55
span.
Junior forward Jessica Strock (Centerville,
MA/Barnstable) connected with Atwood on Wheaton's lone
tally, while senior goalie Andrea Bagley (Foxboro,
MA/Foxboro) was credited with six stops. The
Corsairs held a 15-9 advantage in shots, and the teams split the
game's 10 penalty corners.
Juniors Natalie Brown (Falmouth, MA/Falmouth)
and Stephanie Kinchla (Falmouth, MA/Falmouth)
paced UMass-Dartmouth with two goals apiece, while freshman
Erica Allan (Amherst, MA/Amherst) had a tally and
an assist. Senior Seana Golden (Somerset, MA/Bishop
Stang) made six saves in the cage.
Wheaton continues its four-game road swing on Saturday at Lasell
College at 1:00 p.m.
